The UAE commemorates the “Emirati Women’s Day,” an annual national event that honors the remarkable achievements of Emirati women and their pivotal role in the nation’s progress and sustainable development.

This year’s theme, “We Collaborate for Tomorrow,” introduced by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, highlights the UAE’s alignment with the 2023 theme “Today for Tomorrow,” launched by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The focus is on showcasing the UAE’s domestic efforts and global contributions in tackling sustainability challenges, particularly in energy and climate change through innovative solutions.

The UAE secured the 11th global position in the United Nations Development Programme’s 2022 Gender Inequality Index and topped the Middle East and North Africa region for the third consecutive year.

Moreover, the nation’s achievements continue with the UAE leading the region in the World Bank’s “Women, Business and the Law Report 2023” and ranking first among Arab countries in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) 2022 Global Gender Gap Report.

The UAE stands at the forefront in enhancing women’s participation across political, leadership, and decision-making roles. With women representing 27.5 percent of the country’s ministerial formation and 50 percent in the Federal National Council, the UAE showcases its regional and global leadership, as attested by numerous reports and competitiveness indicators.

Further, the country’s distinction continues, with the UAE securing the global top spot in women’s parliamentary representation according to the Institute of Management Development’s Global Competitiveness Index for 2020 and 2021, as well as in WEF’s Global Gender Gap Report for 2021 and 2022.

In recent years, the UAE has demonstrated its commitment through new legislations and amendments spanning work, protection, political engagement, personal status, judicial affairs, wages, banking, freedom of movement, marriage, entrepreneurship, property, and pension. These efforts solidify women’s gains, safeguard their rights, and elevate the UAE’s position in global competitiveness and reports.
