The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has shut down an illegal recruiting firm in Ermita, Manila, that advertised non-existent jobs in the UAE and the Middle East.
DMW Secretary Susan “Toots” V. Ople stated that the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration’s (POEA) Anti-Illegal Recruitment Branch (AIRB) had padlocked the office of Kharem’s International on July 29, 2022, an unregistered and unlicensed company posing to hire domestic workers, beauticians, and on-call cleaners for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Middle Eastern countries.
“We are serving notice to all illegal recruiters. Layunin ng DMW at ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. na bigyang proteksyon ang ating mga kababayan na nagnanais magtrabaho sa ibang bansa. There will be no let-up in our campaign against illegal recruiters,” Ople said.
Ople added that the DMW received complaints regarding Kharem’s International’s fake employment offers in exchange for placement and other “advance” costs.
The operation was carried out with the assistance of officials from Barangay 668 in Ermita, Manila.
Victims of Kharem’s International, according to Ople, could contact the POEA’s Anti-Illegal Recruitment Branch for free legal help in filing claims.
Ople asked the public to always confirm employment offers with the POEA in order to prevent falling victim to unlawful recruiting techniques.
