Former senator and son of a late dictator Bongbong Marcos has announced his presidential bid in the 2022 elections.
Bongbong made the announcement on his Facebook live on Tuesday, October 5.
“I am now announcing my intention to run for president of the Philippines for the 2022 elections. It’s time to bring back the unifying leadership,” Bongbong said.
Bongbong said that he will focus in driving the nation to recovery which was heavily devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Sama sama tayong babangon mula sa hagupit ng pandemya at babangon mula sa paglulugmok ng ating ekonomiya,” he said.
Bongbong ran in 2016 as vice president but lost to Vice President Leni Robreo. He filed an electoral protest but the Supreme Court ruled that Robredo was the rightful winner in the 2016 polls.
The former senator has yet to announce his runningmate but he has consistently been leading presidential surveys.
