The celebration of UAE’s 50th anniversary of nationhood was made even special by a resolution declaring Emirati Day in New York State.
Senator Kevin Thomas made the announcement that New York state has approved a legislative resolution proclaiming December 2 as Emirati Day.
The Dubai-born legislator said the legislative resolution was done to commemorate the UAE’s 50th Independence Day.
Thomas, who migrated to New York with his family in 1995, recalled that he left UAE when it was modernizing and emerging as an economic and tourist hub in the region.

In his speech, Thomas shared the rich history of UAE and how it transformed into an economic powerhouse in the region.
“Today, the UAE is a modern oil-exporting country with a highly-diversified economy, with Dubai, in particular, developing into a global city and a hub for tourism, retail and finance and home to the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, the Palm Islands, and other architectural wonders,” he said
Thomas said the resolution celebrates the 50th anniversary of the union and the 50th anniversary of strong relations between UAE and the New York State.
He presented the resolution to Abdalla Shaheen, Consul-General of the UAE in New York.

Shaheen thanked Thomas for passing a resolution in honor of the UAE’s 50th Anniversary.
” I thanked Senator Kevin Thomas for his kind initiative that enhances friendship and cooperation between UAE and New York State,” he said.
“The UAE and the State of New York have strong commercial relations, in addition to a number of partnerships in various fields, including technical, sports and education, all of which are based on solid and long-term foundations.” (RA)
