82% UAE residents inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine jab

The UAE has delivered the COVID-19 vaccine jab to around 82 percent of its residents, apart from over 92 percent of the elderly residents also being vaccinated in this regard, according to top officials.

A total of 12.96 million vaccine doses have been administered so far, equivalent to a dosage rate to 131.11 per 100 people – which is the highest in the world.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson of the UAE’s health sector stated that more COVID-19 vaccines would be provided for children after completion of clinical trials in this regard.

At present, only Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines are given to children aged 12 and above, while the Sinopharm vaccine is provided to those over 16 years of age.

She said that the UAE has approved the emergency use of a highly effective new treatment for COVID-19.

The UAE is the first country in the world to approve Sotrovimab (Vir-7831), which will be used to treat Covid-19 patients aged 12 and above as It has been found to be effective in treating mild and moderate infections, besides also Covid variants. (AW)
