NAIA Customs destroys 4.28 tons of unregistered, hazardous goods

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) destroyed a total of 4.28 tons of unregistered and hazardous goods, it said on Friday.

The unregistered cosmetics and food products were destroyed in Trece Martires, Cavite on December 7, using the thermal decomposer (Pyrolysis) Facility of the Integrated Waste Management Inc. (IWMI) to ensure that these items will not be sold or made available in the market.

According to Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) district collector Carmelita Talusan, the condemnation is part of the bureau’s border protection initiatives to protect the public against unsafe and hazardous consumer products.

Talusan added that they have so far condemned a total of 371.42 tons of unregistered and hazardous goods for this year to decongest all ports and warehouses.

She said that the authorities will remain vigilant against the influx of dangerous drugs and goods, as well as hazardous substances, to protect the public amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
