President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen former National Bureau of Investigation director Dante Gierran as the new President and CEO of embattled Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
Gierran became the NBI director from 2016 to 2020.
“Silent worker po ang taong ito. Marunong mag-account at may karanasan sa pag-imbestiga. Inaasahan nating ipapamalas niya ang kanyang political will,” Senator Bong Go said prior to Duterte’s announcement.
Gierran will replace former PhilHealth chief Ricardo Morales.
Morales resigned due to his cancer and amid issues surrounding Philhealth.
Gierran was named by whistleblower Edgar Matobato as part of the Davao Death Squad.
