Internationally renowned Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco wowed the global fashion scene once again as he sparks a new wave of inspiration with his “Impalpable Dream of Hope” for his Fall-Winter bridal collection for 2020.
The Filipino Times Awards 2015 Rizal Awardee and Fashion Designer of the Year sets this collection apart from the others – tagging this as his ‘sustainable collection’ where he gathered recycled fabrics, laces, and other materials from his stockroom to create brand new masterpieces.
“It’s called sustainable collection where you don’t need to throw extra fabrics. I created couture wedding gowns from recycled fabrics and made them look like art pieces. materials from my stockroom and previous collection. I use a lot of lace, embroidered tulle and the crystals I used are from the extra materials that I found from my past collections. I didn’t spend anything to create the new collection,” revealed Cinco in an exclusive interview with The Filipino Times.
Cinco states that the “Impalpable Dream of Hope” draws inspiration from giving a glimpse of hope during these troubling times.
“During the lockdown, I was inspired to create a collection that will inspire people to dream and to have hope in the future. This is the moment where most people will fight to survive and to be alive. So I want to convey the message of Faith, Hope, and Love,” said Cinco.
He furthers that this new collection is more affordable compared to his past creations, stating that most of the brides these days celebrate at their homes only.
“At this point in time where the luxury business is mostly affected by the pandemic the cost of my new collection is very affordable to the market. Most brides celebrate their wedding at home only so I have to create simple and affordable wedding gowns,” said Cinco.
Cinco advises fellow fashion designers to shift their focus towards adapting to the new normal – where finding hope among likeminded people and helping each other will bring forth optimism and sparks of creativity amid the challenges ahead.
“My advice to designers at this time of pandemic is not to lose hope. Fashion is just in a hiatus at this moment. We are in a luxury business where most people in the world will not spend money to buy an expensive dress. Designers should focus on creating something that will adapt to the new normal. This pandemic brings people together with ideas, enthusiasm, and determination to make it work,” said Cinco.
He furthers that fashion is at a state where people get dressed with the feeling of purpose and hope that everything will get better soon.
“The future is not bleak. It’s really important to give people something to dream about. Getting dressed every day makes people feel human, and gives a feeling of purpose, even if we are going nowhere as our current norm. I think in an uncertain time such as this, fashion keeps us dreaming of the day when our regular lives of the past become a reality again,” said Cinco.
He adds: “Everyone needs to still feel a sense of belonging and community, and the light that only fashion can bring to so many people. In God’s perfect time we shall overcome this crisis and be better versions of ourselves,”
