Dubai Police foiled an attempt to smuggle 5,656kg of Captagon tablets worth Dh35.8 million through Jebel Ali port.
His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, praised the anti-narcotics team for successfully busting the biggest drug smuggling attempt in the UAE.
Maj. General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said they arrested four Arab nationals during the massive operation named Pule2.
“Investigations showed that they were planning to re-export the drugs to another Arab country,” he told Khaleej Times
He added that investigation revealed that the four – including the gang chief, his assistant, and two truck drivers – are members of “an international gang highly experienced in smuggling drugs.”
Brigadier Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb said a search and investigation team was formed after receiving a tip regarding suspicious containers of electric cables.
Brigadier Hareb revealed that the smugglers and the trucks were monitored for 15 days from the port to Sharjah.
Authorities found tablets of Captagon stashed in the reels of electric cables.
“It took our teams long hours to empty the electric cable reels where the narcotic drugs were hidden,” he said.
