301 undocumented Chinese nationals deported

A total of 301 Chinese nationals, seven of whom are minors, working illegally in the country, were sent home yesterday by virtue of deportation orders issued by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

The BI said the Chinese nationals boarded two chartered flights at Puerto Princesa International Airport.

They were part of the 329 arrested in eight different hotels and establishments across the country last Sept. 16, found to be working without necessary permits and visas.

The operation was led by BI intelligence agents, assisted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Command (WESCOM).

Fortunato Manahan, chief of BI’s Intelligence Division, said there were seven minors who were also deported and turned over to the Chinese Embassy.

The Chinese government has also cancelled passports of the said 301 Chinese nationals.

The remaining 17 Chinese nationals will all be flown to Manila as their deportation order was already being processed, Manahan added.

He also said 11 others with NBI hits – including the principal – will have to wait resolution of their local cases before their deportation.
