DUBAI: Ambassador Hjayceelyn Quintana has lauded the creation of the Filipino Social Club (FilSoc), saying its inauguration was very appropriate with Dubai World Expo 2020 happening in less than a year’s time.
“The Filipino community in the UAE will be well-placed to be involved in this event of global proportions. There is of course no time to waste and we should start creating opportunities to ensure a strong presence of the Philippines in the world’s greatest show,” the ambassador said in her speech during the official launch held late last week at Radisson Blu Dubai Creek.
“Some opportunities are not immediately obvious nor are they directly connected, but we can at least start changing the focus of our discussions and the direction of our conversations,” she added.
Meantime, among events lined-up by is an international youth festival slated for next year, to be organized on CDA’s recommendation in collaboration with other regulated social clubs.
Ericson P. Reyes, FilSoc president, said the programs, projects and initiatives that FilSoc will undertake in the next two years will cover social, cultural, sports, welfare, and entertainment-related activities.
“We shall be collaborating with many other social clubs in Dubai (and) involving ourselves with other nationalities’ community services,” Reyes said.
He added that FilSoc will hold the Dubai International Youth Festival in response to CDA’s “challenge” to the group, which we are visualizing to culminate in time of Dubai’s Expo in October 2020.”
The club is now open for individual membership to UAE residence visa holders who will just pay Dhs120 for one-year membership. For further inquiries any interested person can email [email protected] or send a message on the FB account Filipino Social Club – FilSoc.
