Mayor Sara Duterte has suspended all classes in public and private schools in Davao City — from kindergarten to post-graduate studies — and work in government offices in Davao City in the wake of the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck Mindanao, Thursday, October 31, 2019.
“The earthquake, which happened this morning , may have caused structural and electrical damage to buildings and houses,” a city advisory said.
“The private sector are also encouraged to do the same to ensure the safety of the people,” it added.
The quake struck the town of Tulunan, Cotabato province, the third time within two weeks, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The latest quake struck the province at 9:11am on Thursday was tectonic in origin with a depth of 33 kilometers.
Intensity VII shaking was felt in Tulunan, Cotabato; Kidapawan City; and Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
A “very strong” Intensity VI was also experienced in Matanao, Davao del Sur.
Phivolcs said that aftershocks are expected.
