An Egyptian woman has divorced his Bahraini husband, and returned the dowry he paid her that only amounts to BD0.023 or Dh0.22, The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain reported.
The woman filed a divorce suit against her husband due to alleged physical and verbal assault, non-payment of alimony, and interference of his mother in their family affairs.
The husband then demanded the wife to return the dowry he paid her at their wedding in Egypt, which he said amounted to BD1,000. However, the wife showed the court their original marriage documents that stated he only paid EGP1, which is less than 25 fils—the smallest coin issued by the Central Bank of Bahrain.
In accordance with Article 95 of the Family Law in Bahrain—which states that the wife can file a divorce provided she pays back the dowry—the wife returned the 23 fils to her husband.
