New Manila Airport in Bulacan to accommodate up to 200M passengers yearly

The Transportation Department said that proposed New Manila International Airport is expected to cater to 100-200 million passengers every year.

The airport is planned to be built in Bulacan by San Miguel Holdings Corporation. The company bagged the Php736.7 billion project on Wednesday without any contender.

“With four parallel runways planned, it targets 240 aircraft movements per hour,” the DOTr said in a statement.

The project will also see a new expressway and tollway being built over the course of the construction period.

“The project will also include the construction of an 8.4-kilometer tollway connecting the airport to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Marilao, Bulacan,” the Transportation Department added.

The new airport is expected to help in decongesting the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

“This new international airport is important in helping ease the congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Together with the expansion of Clark Airport and the construction of additional facilities at Sangley Airport, Bulacan Airport is part of the ‘basket of solutions’ to bring further connectivity to the Filipino people,” Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade explained.

The project which will be built in a 2,500-hectare seaside will generate jobs for Bulacan residents.

“With this project, we will generate a lot of jobs and boost not just the local economies of Bulacan but also of neighboring provinces,” San Miguel president and COO Ramon Ang said in a separate statement.
