Why did Mommy Dionisia miss Manny Pacquiao’s fight in Las Vegas?

Dionisia “Mommy D” Pacquiao usually catches the attention of netizens whenever her son Manny Pacquiao would have a boxing match because of her ringside antics.

Mommy D is known for praying and mumbling inaudible words while clutching a small prayer book and rosary as her son steps inside a ring and fight. However, many fans noticed that Mommy D was absent during Manny’s recent fight with American boxer Adrien Broner in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In an interview with GMA News, Mommy D’s boyfriend, Michael Llamson, said that the People’s Champ’s mother was not able to fly to the United States because of her health condition.

Llamson said that Mommy D has been confined in a hospital due to asthma.

“Nagkaroon siya ng asthma, kung ano ‘yung naramdaman n’ya before. ‘Tapos [umattend] siya ng birthday, after ng birthday, kinabukasan, balik na naman sa hospital,” Llamson was quoted as saying.

He added that Mommy D advised her other children to pray for their brother and show their full support to him.

“Pinagbilin niya sa mga anak niya na bago mag-fight si Manny, i-pray over nila, full-support sa panalangin para manalo,” he said.

On January 20, Manny scored a unanimous decision win against Broner. With his win, Manny defended his WBA welterweight title and a personal career record of 61 wins and 7 losses, with 39 of his wins as knockouts.

Sports website Bleacher Report also noted that his fight with Broner marks his fourth victory in his last five bouts and his seventh in his last nine outings.
