About 78 percent of Filipinos are suffering from gingivitis or swelling of the gums, the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) has reported.
While toothpaste aids in removing dental plaque that can build up on your teeth, your choice of toothbrush is just as important, reported ABS-CBN News.
This is because toothbrush with hard bristles may be doing your teeth and gums more harm than good, the report said.
Dr. Harris Acero, a doctor of alternative medicine, reportedly said that brushing-induced bleeding could lead to infection of the mouth and even of the body.
In a research conducted by ‘Reward Me’, a health and wellness website, green tea leaf has anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-oxidant property. All of these are important in keeping one’s teeth and gums healthy.
“Green tea has substances that can prevent the inflammation of the gums and can fight bacteria that cause the infection inside the gums,” Acero was quoted as saying.
To prevent gingivitis and other gum diseases, Acero, meanwhile, recommends using a toothbrush with green tea essence and soft bristles, said the news portal.
