President Rodrigo Duterte has slammed Senator Panfilo Lacson for commenting on his stand on the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).
“I may accept your comments, but please use a language that will promote your person or human being,” Duterte said in a media briefing.
Duterte said he observed that Lacson has been ranting about the issue on social media “without really finding out whether you are a part of it or not.”
“I am telling you, you are not. So next time consult a lawyer in your office,” Duterte said.
The President said last week: “I’d like to put on notice if there’s an American agent here. From now on, you want the Visiting Forces Agreement done, you have to pay. It’s a shared responsibility but your share of responsibility does not come free because, after all, when the war breaks out, we all pay.”
In reply, Lacson wrote on his Twitter account: “Mr. President, read the 1987 Constitution. A senator has something to do with international agreements.”
