Manila, Philippines – Customs Commissioner Rufino Biazon said on Monday that the Bureau of Customs (BOC) is donating 90 containers of premium rice to super typhoon Yolanda victims.
In a letter to Department of National Defense (DND), Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, through Undersecretary Eduardo del Rosario, Commissioner Biazon notified the former of the availability of the 90×20” containers of Mango Brand Premium rice.
The Customs Commissioner noted that the said rice importation was earlier intended for donations to the victims of typhoon ‘Pablo’ through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) but to date, the forfeited goods are still in the custody of Subic Port, under the risk of contamination due to their perishable in nature.
However, Biazon said that he already informed DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman about the goods given to the victims of the typhoon that battered the Visayas last Friday.
He said: “In view of the recent onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda, which left thousands of people in Eastern Visayas in need of basic necessities, these 90×20” containers of rice are hereby offered for donation to the victims of said calamity.”
