Doctors at the Rashid Hospital have conducted the first minimally invasive surgery to repair a degenerative scoliosis in the UAE.
Dr. Najmedden Attabib, Consultant Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery at Rashid Hospital, conducted the surgery by doing only a small incision from the side of the belly of a 60-year-old patient and, using endoscopy, inserting through the incision cages to correct the spinal curvature.
Insertion of percutaneous pedicle screw for healing the bones was also done in a minimally invasive manner.
Attabib’s alternative surgery method is better than the traditional one that entails big incision in the back and front of a patient, which causes more blood loss. The method also allows the patient to heal faster.
