A fireworks factory in India was engulfed in flames triggered by a powerful explosion on Wednesday resulting in the deaths of 25 workers and injury to five others.
Police in Madhya Pradesh state’s Balaghat district, where the factory is located, confirmed the death toll adding that two of the injured are in serious condition.
Witnesses said the explosion that preceded the fire was so powerful it was heard five kilometers away.
An investigation was launched to determine the cause of the explosion and fire.
Police are also looking for the owner of the factory.
Meanwhile, State agencies have announced that families of the fatalities will be compensated at 200,000 rupees (Dh11,420) each per family.
