Marcos calls for solidarity, prayers for those in distress on Ramadan

President Bongbong Marcos urged Filipinos to instill the values of discipline, reverence and humility as the holy month of Ramadan officially starts.

“The spiritual belief that the gate of Heaven is open during this sacred month calls upon our brothers and sisters to purify their souls against the perils of worldly pleasures as well as seek for forgiveness and peace,” Marcos said in his Ramadan message.

The President also asked the public to pray for those who are in great need and distress.

“The rituals and services during Ramadan remind us of our shared moral obligation – regardless of faith – to compassionately take care of each other, uphold our human dignity, and stand in solidarity,” Marcos said.

“As a nation enriched with cultural diversity, let us allow our hearts to embrace the profound truth that respect conquers divisions, understanding obliterates prejudice and love prevails over all,” the Chief Executive added.

Ramadan is among the five pillars of the Islam religion. During this month, Muslims must abstain from eating, drinking, engaging in any sexual activity, and committing sinful acts from daybreak to dusk.
