Abu Dhabi court ordered 6 men to clean streets, mosques for petty crimes

The Capital replaces short jail terms with community service.

The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution on Monday handed down the community service to the five Emiratis and one GCC national after a court convicted them of various traffic offences including performing road stunts, reckless driving and racing on the roads.

Detained stunt driver was the first to get community service in Abu Dhabi, reported KT.

Three of the men, who were charged with performing road stunts – one of them near a children’s playground – were ordered to do the community work for three months; while the other three men who were charged with driving recklessly and racing on the roads, will each do the community service for one month.

Two of the men in the first case will clean and maintain mosques, while the third man will organize and clean public libraries.

The other three men in the second case have been ordered to clean the streets and to maintain public squares. A man who fed cat to dogs ordered to clean Dubai Zoo.

The community service work assigned to the convicts is aimed at benefiting the public in addition to reforming the violators and bringing a change in their behaviors.
