Filipino swimmer ends 10-year gold medal drought in swimming at SEA Games

Filipino-American swimmer James Deiparine today snatched the country’s first gold medal in a decade at the 100-m breaststroke in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

The swimming event was held in the Aquatics Center in New Clark City in Tarlac.

Deiparine is the first Filipino gold medalist in swimming since 2009 and he also set a new record with a time of 1.01.46.

He was followed by Vietnam’s Pham Thanh Bao, and Singapore’s Khoo Chien Yin Lionel respectively.

The country last won gold medals in swimming and they were by Miguel Molina, Ryan Arabejo, and Daniel Coakley in 2009.
