After United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May officially signed the handwritten letter notifying the EU of U.K.’s intention to leave, it was finally delivered today to Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council, by Tim Barrow, the U.K.’s ambassador to the EU spearheading the major move.
The multi-page letter traveled to Brussels overnight, accompanied by a civil servant and a guard. Tusk and Barrow then met around noon with the latter handing the letter called as the historic Article 50.
The two gentlemen engaged in a brief conversation during their meet-up, although specifics about it hasn’t been disclosed.
“This is an historic moment from which there can be no turning back – Britain is leaving the European Union – we’re going to make our own decisions and our own laws, we’re going to take control of the things that matter most to us,” BBC quoted May as saying during speech addressing the Parliament in London.
“We’re going to take this opportunity to build a stronger and fairer Britain that our children and grandchildren are proud to call home,” she noted.
