Oriental Mindoro customers shock over P1 million electric bill

Several customers of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ORMECO) were surprised upon learning that their electric month bill reached P1 million.

In a report on GMA News, ORMECO issued an apology to its customers as photos of the electric bills now went viral.

ORMECO said it is now investigating the incident but the initial report showed that there could be an error in their customers’ statement of account.

“With regard po doon sa nag-trending recently sa FB na electric bill amounting to P1 million, we admit our meter reader has committed an error because of double entry of one digit,” ORMECO Member Services Division supervisor Moira Lee Vilan told GMA News.

“There was negligence because he never checked the SOA before distributing it to the consumer. It was unintentional and merely human error,” she added.

ORMECO said they were able to issue the correct SOA to the customer immediately but the copy of the bill has already been shared online.

“We encourage our consumers to report their complaints to us directly instead of posting it online so that we can resolve their concerns and queries,” the official said
