The Department of Foreign Affairs said that around 87 Filipinos have requested repatriation and evacuation according to the Philippine Embassy in Egypt. These were the Filipinos affected by the violence in Khartoum, Sudan.
In an interview with GMA News, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega said that Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Ezzedin Tago is on top of the situation. and is handling the matter as honorary consul to Sudan.
“Naka-receive na siya ng at least 87 requests na tulungan silang makaalis. Yung iba gusto narin umuwi,” De Vega said.
The DFA official added that land travel from Khartoum to Egypt may take around nine hours.
De Vega added that there are around 400 Filipinos in Sudan saying that the number of Filipinos who registered increased by 250 after the clashes erupted.
The DFA advised Filipinos in Sudan to stay at home as the Philippine Embassy in Egypt is finding ways to supply them with food.

The clashes in Sudan began last weekend between the Sudanese army and paramilitaries. The chaos has killed around 270 people and left over 2,6000 injured.
