An awareness campaign to help reduce accidents by delivery riders was launched in Dubai.
The ‘It Can Wait’ campaign by Dubai Police and Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) came after motorbike accidents in the city increased by 33 percent last year. As many as 400 motorbike accidents were reported in Dubai in 2021 compared to 300 the previous year.
Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, chief executive of the RTA’s Licensing Agency, called on the members of public to demonstrate responsibility adding, “hassling delivery riders tends to distract their concentration during the journey, which may result in serious accidents for the biker or other road users.”
The RTA has also updated the regulations of the delivery service business for highest safety levels in accordance with best international standards. Specialist training will also be imparted to delivery riders.
In June 2021, the RTA had issued a Delivery Activity Manual which banned riders from using the fast lane or use backpacks for deliveries and restricted travel to not more than 100kph.
