The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Tuesday reminded ABS-CBN Corp. that the company is legally bounded to compensate retrenched employees with separation pay benefits.
In a statement, Labor Undersecretary Ana C. Dione said, “[S]hould termination, reduction or displacement of workforce becomes unavoidable, the first thing that ABS-CBN should do is compensate the employees because it is legally bound to pay separation benefits to those who will be retrenched or terminated.”

Meanwhile, DOLE reassured the affected employees of the shuttered media network that they will monitor recent developments and will be ready to extend the necessary assistance to affected workers.
The agency said its NCR regional office has been directed to determine the exact number of ABS-CBN employees entitled to receive separation benefits from the company.

“[Our] labour laws mandate a company that reduces its workforce or has ceased operations to provide its employees with severance pays or similar emoluments.”
“The employees should, therefore, be assured that they are getting separation benefits, and start anew,” she added.
