US Box Office suffers its worst weekend in 20 years due to COVID-19

Coronavirus pandemic has brought the cinema ticket sales in the United States to its lowest levels in 22 years.
The US box office totaled around 54 million, the worst weekend total since January 14, 1998, Business Insider reported.
New releases this weekend such as Sony’s superhero movie “Bloodshot,” Blumhouse’s controversial thriller “The Hunt,” and Lionsgate’s “I Still Believe” failed to breach $10 million-mark while the previous weekend holdover, Pixar’s “Onward” stayed on top with $10.5 million.

Major cinemas including AMC Theatres and Regal announced they would reduce their operating capacity at 50% to slow the outbreak of COVID-19.
Production of several upcoming movies was postponed and many finished films were delayed due to COVID-19.

Onward— $10.5 million
I Still Believe— $9.5 million
Bloodshot— $9.3 million
The Invisible Man—$6 million
The Hunt— $5.3 million
Sonic the Hedgehog — $2.6 million
The Way Back—$2.4 million
The Call of the Wild—$2.2 million
Emma —$1.4 million
Bad Boy for Life — $1.1 million
