WHO: Anti-novel coronavirus vaccine ready in 18 months

An official of the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that the first anti-novel coronavirus vaccine would be made available to the public after 18 months, Reuters reported.
“So we have to do everything today using the available weapons to fight this virus while preparing for the long term using the preparations for the vaccines,” said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in Geneva on Tuesday.
“With 99% of cases in China, this remains very much an emergency for that country, but one that holds a very grave threat for the rest of the world,” he added.
Ghebreyesus spoke before more than 400 researchers and national authorities, including some taking part by video conference from mainland China and Taiwan.
He also expressed concern over ongoing transmission from people with no travel history to China as he cited cases reported in France and Britain.
There are five British nationals who were diagnosed with the coronavirus in France, after staying in the same ski chalet with a person who had been in Singapore.
