Taal’s main crater lake dries up – Phivolcs

The water has been drained in the main crater of Taal volcano, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirmed Wednesday.
Philvocs’volcano monitoring division chief Ma. Antonia Bornas explained that the draining of the main crater lake is due to the ground distortion brought by the upward movement of magma beneath the volcano’s surface.
Nagkaroon siguro ng pagalsa or uplift angTaal region, Bornas explained in a press briefing.
She also explained that the fissures observed in the town of Lemery stretched towards Talisay.
Bornas added a probability of underwater fissure which might cause the draining.
The state volcanologist added they discovered new vent craters inside the main crater and on the northern side of the volcano.
Philvocs explained that fissures and crack indicates an imminent hazardous eruption from the country’s second most active volcano.
