A man who wanted to joke around with a female friend by posting a video online to make fun of her had apparently not thought he would pay heavily for such an act.

The woman felt insulted by the joke and filed a lawsuit against the man. The court found him guilty of offending her and violating the IT laws in the UAE.

A court of first instance in Abu Dhabi sentenced him to one year in jail, suspended for three years, but he found that the verdict is too severe so he appealed.

A court of appeals issued the same sentence, prompting him to resort to the Supreme Federal Court, which rejected his appeal.
