Vice President Leni Robredo wants the government to ensure that what happened to Filipina domestic helper Jeanelyn Villavende will not happen again in Kuwait.
Villavende was allegedly beaten to death by her femaile employer in the Gulf state.
Robredo said there must be a measure that will ensure protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“Dapat siguruhin na hindi na siya mangyayari sa susunod,” Robredo said on her radio show.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued a partial deployment ban to Kuwait following Villavende’s death.
Robredo said despite the agreement signed by the Philippines and Kuwait to protect OFWs, these unfortunate incidents continue to happen.
“Nagkaroon na rin ng ganito, na-suspend siya 2018, noong namatay naman si Joanna. Kailangan talagang pag-aralan ito dahil kahit na na-suspend siya, nagkaroon ng memorandum of agreement, nangyari na naman,” she said.
