Lambanog poisoning death toll now at 15, 300 others hospitalized

The death toll on the suspected lambanog or coconut wine has reached 15 on Christmas Eve according to Rizal town officials.

Two more residents of Rizal town in Laguna died Tuesday morning after being rushed at the Philippine General Hospital and Rizal Medical Center.

Rizal Mayor Vener Muñoz confirmed this news to reporters.

A total of 12 Rizal town residents have perished, while 3 were also killed in Candelaria town of Quezon after drinking Lambanog.

Rizal Police said that at least 300 people were hospitalized due to stomach pains and suspected alcohol poisoning.

The town is now under a state of emergency and the provincial government of Laguna has banned all lambanog products in the province.

“Lahat po ng tao samin takot na po talaga uminom. Kahit siguro magtinda sila nang patago, siguro wala pong bibili,” Vener told ABS-CBN News.
