DH employers in Manila told: Minimum wage is P5,000 starting January 2, 2020

Good news for domestic workers in Metro Manila: the minimum wage is now P5,000 per month effective January 2, 2020.

The Department of Labor and Employment’s Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Metro Manila has decided last week to increase the salary of domestic workers with an additional P1,500.

This is 42.85 percent increase from the previous P3,500 minimum rate allowed since 2017.

“The Board agreed to provide for wage adjustments for domestic workers with immediate relief measures to manage the rising cost of living,” Wage Order No. NCR-DW-02 reads.

Aside from house helpers and nannies, domestic helpers also cover cooks, gardeners and laundry persons.

Those who are not covered are service providers, family drivers, children under foster family arrangements and persons only working occasionally.

The wage board reviewed the minimum wage of domestic helpers motu propio (on its own). Under the Kasambahay Law, regional wage boards are mandated to review the minimum wage rates for domestic workers regularly.

Aside from the salary increase, household helpers are also entitled to benefits like Social Security System (SSS), Pagibig, Philhealth and 13th month pay.

Domestic workers can file a complaint if employers fail to comply at DOLE hotline number: 1349.
