4 distressed Pinoys rescued after vessel sank, captain still missing

Four Filipino seamen were rescued by a passing ship on Thursday, December 19, after their cargo vessel sank at Calayan Island in Cagayan Valley region, the northern area of Luzon.

The rescued seafarers who went adrift for four hours were Raymond Cotiangco, Arnold Española, Rene Fernandez, and Ryan Parungao, reported by GMA News.

According to the Philippine Coastguard, ship captain Charlemagne Tambago is still missing.

Due to rough seas, the vessel turned over 56 nautical miles from Calayan Island at around 11 a.m. last Thursday.

Captain Tambago was able to issue an ‘abandon ship’ call, cueing them to jump off the vessel, said the seafarers.

However, they lost sight of Tambago until a passing ship, M.V. Fomento II arrived and rescued them.
