Thousands of individuals were evacuated as early as this afternoon as Bicol braces for Typhoon Tisoy which has been forecast to hit the region tomorrow.
The Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) was quoted in a report by Inquirer.net as saying they have evacuated over 100,000 individuals especially those living in lahar-prone areas.
Evacuation will still continue until 1 p.m. on Monday.
Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara said there is a mandatory evacuation for all residents living in low-lying areas, especially those along river channels that connect to the slopes of Mount Mayon where huge volumes of lahar are deposited.
Bichara has ordered the police to forcibly bring those who will not evacuate to the nearest evacuation camps.
An estimated 19 million cubic meters of lahar had been deposited in various slopes surrounding the volcano, says Cedric Daep, chief of the Albay Public Safety Emergency and Management Office (APSEMO).
