For some home-sick OFWs in the UAE, not being able to hold video call to their loved ones to the Philippines could be frustrating. But recently, UAE regulators are allowing voice-over internet protocols (VOIP) into the telecoms market slowly.
UAE telecoms operator Etisalat has posted in its website an additional app that their subscribers could download for video and voice calls.
The mobile and desktop app — Voico UAE — is available free on the Apple app store and Google Play store.
“Voico UAE offers video and audio calls for users in UAE, India, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Kuwait, US, Canada, China and many more,” the app description states.
It offers “unblocked high-quality video / audio calls,” it adds.
For du subscribers, apparently it is not yet available.
Aside from Voico, UAE has already allowed Yzer, Botim, C’Me and HiU to be used for voice and video calls.
However, other VoIP services including Skype, WhatsApp and Facetime calls remain blocked in the UAE.
