“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through its Philippine Honorary Consulate in Tirana, reports that no Filipino died or was injured as a result of the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Albania early morning of Tuesday, 26 November 2019,” the DFA said in a statement.
At least 21 people were killed in the powerful quake. Some 13 bodies were pulled out from collapsed buildings while 45 people were rescued in Thumane.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was centered 30 km west of Tirana. It was also felt across the Balkans and in the southern Italian region of Puglia, across the Adriatic Sea from Albania.
“The Philippine Embassy in Rome, which has jurisdiction over Albania, is in constant communication with the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Tirana and the Filipino community leaders in Albania to gather the latest developments on the incident,” the DFA added.
