An Asian taxi driver has been arrested in Fujairah on charges of snatching housemaids from their employers to work in other jobs.
Police arrested the man after the employer of an African maid reported that the driver took his maid to a recruitment office in Ajman for another job.
In court, the driver was charged of “roaming in neighborhoods” in Fujairah in search for housemaids to smuggle them to other emirates for better jobs in return for money, according to newspapers.
The defendant denied the charges, telling the judge that the African maid asked him to take her to Ajman and that he did not know she was absconding.
Newspapers said the judge decided to adjourn hearings to a later date.
