Former Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino Jr. has survived from an ambush on Wednesday afternoon.
Espino suffered injuries and was brought to the hospital in San Carlos City, Pangasinan, as per a report from GMA News.
Information from the Police Regional Office 1 showed Espino was on board his vehicle when he was shot by a still unidentified suspect in Barangay Magtaking at 4:30 p.m.
Police are now conducting dragnet operation to identify the person responsible for the ambush.
Senator Richard Gordon tweeted that Espino’s group was on board on Toyota Innova van without security backup.
“All 5 of his bodyguards heroically shielded Espino with their bodies and they all perished” Gordon tweeted
“This is completely unacceptable… The police should be able to track down the perpetrators if they act fast,” Gordon said urging the chief PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde to track down the suspects and bring them to justice.
