Hair-cutting salons and massage centres in Dubai committed over 1,000 offences in 2018, including violating public health rules.
The public health and safety section at Dubai’s Municipality said 197 salons and massage centres committed 1,014 offences last year and were all fined and served with notices.
The offences involved violations of health and cleanliness rules, expiry of workers’ medical insurance cards, and other offences.
The penalties were imposed by the municipality teams making random visits to those centres to ensure they abide by existing rules.
“Some offences have to do with the workers’ behavior such as general cleanliness… others include public health violations, the use of bad equipment, and failure to abide by rules regarding leaving enough space between hair-cutting chairs,” said Nassim Rafei, head off the public health and safety section.
