Gatchalian: Abolish good conduct allowance for inmates

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has had enough on the confusion surrounding the implementation of the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law.

The law gives credit to an inmate’s good conduct inside a prison that could help him be released earlier than his original sentence.

However, heinous crimes convicts could potentially benefit from this law like rape-slay suspect Antonio Sanchez.

“Let’s simplify our lives, just abolish that GCTA. Para walang ng corruption at mga lagay lagay sa loob ng BuCor,” Gatchalian said on Twitter.

The Justice Department has ordered the suspension of the review of inmates’ good conduct and release of prisoners under the GCTA law.

Presidential Spokesperson Sal Panelo said that inmates who were freed due to good conduct should be brought back to prison.

“Gagawin ng lahat ng mga drug lords at rapist makalabas ng kulungan. Maglalagay talaga yan,” Gatchalian’s tweeted.

Lawmakers will probe the GCTA law implementation and look into ways on amending the law.
