The Philippine National Police (PNP) is asking Php 184.9-billion budget in next year’s budget for the improvement of the peace and order situation in the country.
Included in the budget for PNP is an allotment of Php 17.4 billion to hire around 37,000 policemen wherein 10,000 new police officer positions will be created and 26,685 more vacancies will be filled.
PNP’s proposal was submitted to the Senate by the executive department last week.
“The proposed national budget of P4.1 trillion for 2020 continues to support our inclusive growth expansion strategies, primarily aimed at accelerating investments in public infrastructure, improving anti-poverty programs and intensifying employment generation,” Duterte’s message read, as per a report from the Philippine Star.
Under the proposed 2020 budget for PNP, the creation of another 10,000 police officer positions in the PNP alone will cost the government around Php3 billion.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) was given the go-signal by the President to fill the 26,685 positions in the PNP as well that would cost the government P14.4 billion.
