Chinese national nabbed for stealing SUV at knifepoint in Subic

A 24-year-old Chinese national was arrested after he and his companion was accused of stealing a sports utility vehicle (SUV) along Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEx) last Sunday, reported the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Bin Zhang, a resident of Pasig City, was arrested at the vicinity of the Subic Gateway Hub where the stolen vehicle, a white Hyundai Starex, was also recovered.

The complainant George Villanueva, an on-call driver from Kawit, Cavite, said he was instructed by his boss, a certain Mr. Wong, to pick up Zhang and his companion in Ortigas Center in Pasig about 3 p.m. on Sunday.

He was told to bring the passengers to Buma Hotel inside the free port, but when they reached Tipo Gate of the SFEx around 6 p.m., the suspects allegedly poked a cutter knife at him.

Out of fear, Villanueva jumped out of the vehicle while the suspects drove off.

Zhang’s still-unidentified companion remains at large, the report said.
