DUBAI: A Filipino died after saving a fellow Pinoy from drowning in Lake Snye in Fort McMurray in Alberta, Aug 23, according to Zaldy Patron, the Philippine consul general to Calgary.
Following this, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Twitter that it is now coordinating with the Consulate General for the repatriation of the remains.
According to DFA, the deceased, whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was with his friends at the lake.
“After saving the lives of his friends, he drowned in the lake,” DFA said.
The DFA said the Philippine Consulate General is already coordinating with Canadian authorities and the Filipino’s family in the Philippines for the repatriation of his remains.
The DFA also assured the Filipino’s family that the consulate general is ready to help.
