POEA urges recruitment agencies to submit OFW contact info amid Hong Kong protests

A group of recruitment agencies has instructed its members to collect all the information of Filipino domestic workers who are in and travelling to Hong Kong.

The group should come up with a directory that will have the workers’ addresses, contact numbers, email addresses, social media accounts, and other forms by which they can be reached.

Society of Hong Kong Recruiters of the Philippines (SHARP) said that the information should be shared to government agencies and labor offices in Hong Kong.

“All information gathered should be submitted to SHARP secretary-general Art Pangilinan for ready transmittal to the POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration) or Hong Kong POLO (Philippine Overseas Labor Office) in case of any mandatory evacuation or repatriation,” SHARP said in a statement.

The advisory is issued amid tensions between Hong Kong and mainland China.

“Avoid unnecessary errands near demonstration sites, and instruct counterpart agencies to pick up arriving workers at the Hong Kong International Airport,” SHARP said.

New workers should also be given SIM cards by their respective recruitment agencies.

Millions of activists and protesters have flocked Hong Kong streets in the recent weeks.

Recent protests and other related activities even disrupted airline operations due to the massive protests.
