Commission on Election’s First Division granted the request to junk Ronald Cardema’s bid to become Duterte Youth Party-list first nominee.
In a series of tweets, Election lawyer Emilio Marañon III and petitioner confirmed that the COMELEC’s First Division has decided on their favor.
“We are happy to announce that with the vote of 2-0, the Comelec First Division has granted our Petition seeking the cancellation of the nomination of Gian Carlo Cardema as the First Nominee of the Duterte Youth Party-List,” Marañon said.
Marañon said that cancellation cases are first conducted in the division level to be adopted by the En Banc.
“Commissioner Rowena Amelia Guanzon and Marlon Casquejo both voted to grant the Petition, while Commissioner Parreño was on official business. Our official statement to follow,” Marañon said.
Groups and critics have questioned Cardema’s substitution bid and the timing he had filed it.
Question over Cardema’s age on whether or not he can be a ‘Youth party-list’ when in fact he is overaged.
Cardema clarified that the Duterte Youth is also for young professionals and not limited to young people.
‘Duterte Youth’ party-list won a seat in the 2019 midterm elections.
