The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has assured that the Filipino seafarer who was part of the crew of the MT Stena Impero that was seized while transiting the Strait of Hormuz last July 19 is safe.
In a statement released, DFA said Ambassador Wilfredo Santos, head of the Philippine mjssion to Iran, has reported that Philippine Embassy officials in Tehran were allowed to get on board the vessel on Friday, July 26 to talk to the Filipino crew.
“The Filipino seafarer is well and in good spirits,” read a portion of the statement by the DFA.
They also said that the crew there are treated well and were allowed to move freely while inside the vessel to go about with their normal duties. They were able to communicate with their families and were allowed Internet access from time to time.
The Filipino seafarer has requested assistance for his family while their vessel is still embargoed in Iranian waters.
He, likewise, thanked his manning agency and the embassy for their assistance.
The Philippine Embassy is continuously monitoring any developments on this matter and they are working ways to have him, as well as his other crewmates, released.
