Boracay tourist arrivals up, Tourism Chief thanks social media

Tourism Chief Berna Romulo-Puyat said that tourist arrivals in the world-famous Boracay Island are steadily increasing despite its six-month rehabilitation and closure last year.

Puyat said that social media played a great role in attracting visitors in the perfectly white sand beaches of Boracay.

Foreign tourist arrivals hit 7.1 million last year from 6.6 million in 2017.

The employment rate also increased from 5.3 million to 5.4 million.

The Tourism Chief also said that there is a dramatic increase in domestic tourist arrivals.

“The goal was for 2022, was only 86 million. We have already reached 100 million domestic tourists,” Puyat told ANC’s The Boss in an exclusive interview.

Puyat said that crowdsourcing and social media boosted their tourism campaign. Foreigners telling how beautiful the Philippines is and dispelling security issues and misconceptions.
